Water Project Task Force Begins work

Since 2021, the Kansas Legislative has been active in looking at water issues of the state and how to better address these issues. This has resulted in some increased
funding for water needs and legislation to spur action by the state’s Groundwater Management District to better address groundwater issues. But more work remains and
Legislative work continues, most recently in the creation of a “Water Project Task Force,” composed of 7 legislators and 6 private citizens appointed mostly by legislative
leadership. The Task Force has 1 ½ years to develop recommendations and proposed funding to address Kansas water needs more comprehensively, building on previous work.

The Task Force had their first meeting on Monday, July 21, with second one planned for next Monday, July 28, and then two days of hearings in Dodge City on August 11 and
12.

I have built a page on my web site to help myself and others track the Task Forces’ progress at: https://kwrconsulting.com/legislation/water-program-task-force-2025-26/.

The page has:

  • links to the legislative bill creating the task force with highlights of its specific mission, specific expectations for its final report
  • links to the Task Force’s legislative page
  • links to the Task Forces its first meeting agenda, video, and presentations
  • a link to the agenda for the upcoming second meeting on July 28
  • and more

I will be updating the page as the work progresses.
